Sarasota Memorial Hospital Visit Provides Valuable Insight to KU Nursing Students
Keiser University Sarasota campus nursing students recently gained a first-hand look at operating room procedures at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The event provided them the opportunity to spend the day observing a variety of surgeries including open heart, hip and knee replacements, facelifts, and more.
“Before any student is permitted into the operating room suite, the surgical educators review how to properly put on head caps, booties and surgical masks, along with the rules and roles of everyone in the OR. They then go over everything from what a visitor should do if they are feeling lightheaded, to their OR contracted roles for new graduates. Students are also encouraged to network with the surgical educators and to reconnect with them nearer to graduation if they are interested in perioperative nursing,” said Michelle Myers Glower, Keiser University’s Sarasota campus Clinical Coordinator and Nursing faculty member who had led the event.
