Skylar and KU Clearwater Volunteers Help Out Nonprofit Food Bank
A nonprofit group that helps feed people going through difficult times got a little help itself recently from students, faculty and staff from the Clearwater Campus, and Skylar went along to supervise.
RCS Pinellas is a not for profit organization that delivers food to local food pantries, homeless shelters, domestic violence safe houses, soup kitchens, and housing programs for the disabled and the elderly to ensure access to food in the neighborhoods that need it most. RCS relies upon local volunteers like those from KU- Clearwater to ensure their mission.
Criminal Justice Program Director Demetric Armstead and Director of Student Services Karen Bisco accompanied the Student Government Association and Leadership Distinction Students of the Clearwater Campus to assist in sorting nonperishable food products. They also helped serve people who came to utilize the food pantry.
Those involved say they felt a collective sense of humility and self-satisfaction for being able to serve the Clearwater community. The SGA and Leadership Students plan to continue to maintain a regular volunteer schedule with RCS
