As Keiser University student Garnett Kisner prepares to attend her doctoral residency, she is thankful that her involvement as a public servant further enhances her learning experience.

Now serving as a Senior Community Engagement Strategist at the Hillsboro County Clerk of Court, Kisner shared that she first became interested in family law as a single parent, so she thoughtfully finetuned her work and educational goals while caring for her two children. Soon enrolling in Keiser University’s online Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies program, she coordinated full-time work responsibilities with academia before earning her degree in 2020. With a growing interest in the field, she decided to pursue her Master of Science degree and was thankful for the subsequent professional opportunity to join the Hillsboro County Clerk of Court’s Family Law Division.

“As time progressed, I started to love learning about every aspect of law.  I wanted to keep going as long as I could,” recalled Kisner, while adding that the encouragement she received along the way helped make the dream possible. “The ongoing support from Keiser University peer students, professors, advisors, and staff has made it such a great experience,” she said while sending a special shout of gratitude to Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Program Chair Dr. Frederick Turner.

Now disseminating vital information relating to safeguarding records, financial assets, and more, as part of her professional role, Kisner hopes to eventually share what she’s learned as a Criminal Justice professor and further shared her thoughts here for Keiser University’s Youtube viewers. While reflecting on her journey, she encourages others to dream big and to persevere. “There is nothing you cannot achieve when you put the work into every new adventure that you want to accomplish.  There are days that you want to give up but keep going because the end success is such an amazing feeling,” she smiled.
