Equine Students Observe Ultrasound of Pregnant Mare

Keiser University Advanced Equine Training class students recently enjoyed a unique learning experience as they observed an ultrasound being conducted on a pregnant thoroughbred mare.

Designed to educate students about the breeding process and equine reproduction, the Bally Rose Farm field trip provided insights from Dr. Stephanie Wallbornn an equine breeding specialist. While viewing the procedure, the students were able to witness the beating heart of the unborn foal while identifying various other organs.

“Education certainly does come in a variety of packages,” smiled Equine Program Director Julie Snyder. “Not only is there a physiological aspect to success in breeding, but also necessary is daily care and preparation, maintenance, and exact timing.”

As a diplomat of the American College of Theriogenologists, Dr. Walbornn has made the Rood & Riddle name a top provider of a variety of advanced reproductive techniques including embryo flushing, oocyte aspiration, semen collection and evaluation, and more.

The Keiser University Equine Studies concentration offers students the well-rounded educational opportunity necessary to be successful in the equine industry while preparing them for admission to graduate programs in Veterinarian Medicine. Along with the necessary pre-vet curriculum, the Equine Studies concentration offers students the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in the areas of horse handling and training, while developing an understanding of genetic composition, Equine nutrition, health and disease monitoring and more.
