Keiser University Hosts Important Community Roundtable Discussion
Keiser University recently hosted an important community roundtable discussion led by United States Congressman Alcee Hastings titled ‘Racial Disparities in Mental Health and Suicide.’
With the goal of increasing assistance as the mental health crisis among American youth and teens continues to grow, panelists represented a variety of community service initiatives including the Florida Department of Health, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Florida Department of Education, the Broward and Palm Beach County School Districts, and more.
After being welcomed by Keiser University Flagship campus President Dr. Gary Vonk, Hasting’s thanked Dr. and Mrs. Keiser for their leadership and willingness to support the discussion that identified the problems, warning signs and resources available to those in need.
Along with Congressman Hastings and Congresswoman Lois Frankel, elected officials in the audience included:
- Florida Senator Bobby Powell
- Florida Senator Perry Thurston
- Florida Representative Cindy Polo
- Florida Representative Patricia Williams
- Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay
Regional aides included Ryan Hnatiuk (U.S. Senator Rick Scott) and Greg Langowski (U.S. Senator Marco Rubio).
