Keiser University Lakeland begins enrolling for new associate degree in medical sonography

LAKELAND, Fla.— Keiser University’s Lakeland campus has recently begun enrolling for a new degree program in the field of medical sonography. The school will now offer an Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography with concentrations in General and Vascular Sonography.

Keiser University’s A.S. in Diagnostic Medical Sonography presents an integration of didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences in a program that prepares students to function as entry-level diagnostic medical sonographers. Like all Keiser academic programs, the program facilitates the development of learned knowledge and skills and strives to instill the values and concepts of life-long learning.

“We are excited to add diagnostic medical sonography with a concentration in General and Vascular Sonography to our existing imaging science degree programs,” said Melody Rider, Keiser University Lakeland Campus President. “We want to meet the community’s needs in all areas of imaging by continuing to produce well-prepared and highly-knowledgeable graduates.”

The new KU Lakeland program specializes in both general and vascular sonography. Students will take in-depth courses in abdominal, OB/GYN, and cerebrovascular sonography. The 65-credit hour program includes 12 credit hours of clinical rotation at a clinic, hospital, or doctor’s office.

Jobs in the field of diagnostic medical sonography have been a big part of allied health job growth in recent years. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the industry is likely to grow by 14 percent between 2018 and 2028. The Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests a median pay of approximately $67,000 a year for sonographers.

The new program is available at Keiser’s Lakeland campus located at 2400 Interstate Drive. Keiser’s A.S. in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is also offered at Keiser University campuses in Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Melbourne, and New Port Richey.
