Keiser University Nursing Student Sets Sights on a Career in Pediatrics

Steele Kosarik is eager to learn more about a career as a pediatric nurse thanks to the lessons he’s learned as part of his Keiser University experience.

The Sarasota campus student became inspired to work with pediatric post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) patients while participating in clinical interactions at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital located in Saint Petersburg, Florida. While providing students the opportunity for supervised communication with patients in local healthcare facilities, the experiences provide valuable instruction that students can only get in the field.

“As I look forward to a healthcare career working with children, it’s not a surprise to me that professionals in our field find their occupations more meaningful and valued than ever before during this unanticipated pandemic,” he reflected. Kosarik is also thankful for the Effective Access to Student Education (EASE) grant. “The grant was highly beneficial to me during my college education and I’m thankful that it has the potential to positively impact other students in the same manner,” he said. “The EASE program provided me with financial support throughout my nursing degree which made college more enjoyable and less financially stressful.”

Keiser University’s Associate of Science degree in Nursing program prepares students to practice professional nursing. Professional nursing involves the performance of those acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied principles of biological, physical, psychological, and social sciences.
