Keiser University Seahawk Women’s Swim Team Claims First NAIA Championship, Men’s Team Claims 4th

The Keiser University Seahawk Women’s Swim Team claimed their first and the Men their fourth National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championship on Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Columbus, Georgia.

The Women’s Team concluded the championship with 33 individual All-Americans, five All-American relay teams, four relay National Championship teams, and seven individual National Champions and the Men’s Team with 30 individual All-Americans, four All-American relay teams, four relay National Championship teams, and seven individual National Champions.

In addition, Adam Epstein was again named the NAIA Coach of the Year, Marine Lecomte was named the NAIA Swimmer of the Year, Alberto Garcia Marcos was named the NAIA Swimmer of the Year and Emerson Zaplatar earned the NAIA Swim of the Meet for his performance in the 100 Breast.

Competition Highlights

Women’s Team

Stefania Sofoulis started the final day of the championship, winning the 1650-yard freestyle event, putting up a time of 17:29.67.

Marine Lecomte topped her competition in the 200 Back, claiming her second National Championship, touching the pads at 1:58.87.

Seahawk swimmers 3-4-6 in the 100 Free, with Timea Aspegren (52.07) Emma Sofie Augustsson (52.33), Camryn Hudson (52.33), and Danai Sofoulis (52.50).

Biltoft-Jensen claimed her second career National Championship, this time in the 200 Breast, touching the wall at a school-record time of 2:17.00.

Hudson picked up the National Championship in the 200 Fly, sprinting to a time of 2:03.86, tying the school record.

Keiser ended the event with a National Championship in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Aubrey Bach, Augustsson, Aspegren, and Hudson boasted a time of 3:27.59.

Men’s Team

Hakon Syrrist started the final day of the championship with a fourth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle, putting up a time of 15:58.68.

Fynn Kunze won his second individual National Championship, this time in the 200 Back, touching the wall at 1:46.79.

In the 100 Free, Alberto Garcia claimed his third National Championship of the meet, touching the pads at 43.93.

Keiser went 2-3 in the 200 Breast with Zaplatar (1:59.14) and Myklebusthaug (2:00.21).
