Keiser University Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology Students Learn the Value of Assessments, Technological Tools
Students of Keiser University’s Orlando Campus Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology program recently learned the value of regular fitness tests and related technological tools as they welcomed Rodolfo Vieira, to serve as a fitness assessment subject.
A five-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion and undefeated Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) fighter, Vieira underwent Maximal Oxygen Consumption (VO2 Max) cardiorespiratory fitness, Anaerobic Power and Body Composition assessments. Prior to the tests, Vieira completed a Par-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) form. His body fat ratio was then tested using skinfold caliper measurements of his biceps, triceps, subscapular and iliac crest which were plugged into the Durnin-Womersley formula used by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). The group followed the standard for measuring and discovered that Vieira has less than 7% body fat even though he is still currently nineteen days from competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the middleweight division. They then conducted the same test using the technology of the Korr CardioCoach fitness assessment gas analyzer, this time with Vieira having exercising strenuously. Vieira still scored between the 46.5-52.4ml/kg/min, which falls within the excellent range.
