Keiser University’s Port St. Lucie Campus Partners with Community Members to Offer Speaker Series

Keiser University’s Port St. Lucie Campus recently offered a community session designed to shed light on landmark Supreme Court cases.

Led by Dr. Tracy Record, Chair of Keiser University’s Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, and Homeland Security programs, the event included insights into the ‘secret’ history of the landmark Korematsu v. United States case in which the Court upheld Japanese internment during World War II.

Titled after real people who had the courage to take their cases to the highest court in the land, insights, and findings of the legal occasions are studied, dissected, and deliberated by lawyers, law students, and legal scholars who cite them in their briefs and argue them in court. “Events like these are important because they provide an opportunity for connection with our neighbors while fostering lifelong learning and highlighting how Keiser University is educating and training tomorrow’s leaders,” said Record.

Keiser University’s traditional Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies trains students for careers in law and law-related fields (business, government, and criminal justice) and also prepares students to pursue a law degree.  Students learn the necessary information and skills for successful integration into a law office atmosphere.  They also learn the ways in which the law impacts most professional fields. The program permits students to take up to six elective courses, three of which must come from the Legal Studies curriculum, and may also provide students with the opportunity for an internship.

Keiser University is a private, independent, non-profit university serving nearly 20,000 students at 21 Florida campuses, online, and two international sites.
