Keiser University students who are currently taking Chemistry in Fort Myers are learning what pH is by working with milk of magnesia and water.

pH is a scale of acidity from 0 to 14, which tells how acidic or alkaline a substance is. More acidic solutions have lower pH. More alkaline solutions have higher pH. Substances that aren’t acidic or alkaline (that is, neutral solutions) usually have a pH of 7.

Students added Sulfuric Acid drop by drop to the mixture to see how the color, consistency and clarity changed. Then they added a base to return the concoction back to its original color and consistency or pH.
