Mobile Simulation Lab Inspires Future Healthcare Professionals

Keiser University continues to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals throughout Florida through its Mobile Simulation Lab, which delivers immersive, real-world training experiences.

The state-of-the-art lab demonstrates realistic patient scenarios, including heart attacks, strokes, accident injuries, pharmacology, and more, using “Annie,” a high-fidelity medical manikin. Designed to strengthen nursing education and expand healthcare career exploration, it provides students opportunities to observe and participate in clinical demonstrations that mirror real hospital environments.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals at John I. Leonard High School

During a recent visit to John I. Leonard High School in Lake Worth, Florida, led by Keiser University Admissions professionals Barbara Shafer and John Bowman, the lab provided hands-on learning opportunities for students enrolled in the school’s Health Science program.

Erin Martin, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing senior at Keiser University’s Flagship Campus, assisted in demonstrating the Mobile Simulation Lab technology and helped guide high school students through elements of simulation experience. She also explained vital sign concepts, helped students locate pulses, and shared insights about her experience in nursing school as she prepares for her career.

The opportunity also helped Martin strengthen her own professional skills as she prepares to serve psychiatric patients after graduation.

“It helps me because there will be times in the hospital where I’ll need to explain procedures to patients, and I must be equipped to do so,” said Martin, also a Keiser Lacrosse player, who shared that she “loves everything about what it takes to keep a human body healthy and happy.”

Expanding Career Awareness Through Technology

Tania Martinez, John I. Leonard’s Medical Academy teacher, emphasized the importance of exposing students to hands-on medical technology and real-world healthcare scenarios.

“It’s important because students are trying to get a feel for what the medical field is like in a classroom setting—and on a bus, it’s cool. With everything so technology-based, it provides good opportunities to learn and to get a feel for the field,” she said, adding that “the sky is not the limit” for her learners as they strive to reach above and beyond their dreams.

By bringing advanced simulation technology directly to schools and community settings, the program helps students better understand healthcare career pathways while building confidence and foundational clinical knowledge.

2025 Statewide Impact by the Numbers

Throughout 2025, under the leadership of Mobile Simulation Lab Coordinator Jeff Mueller RN, the resource continued expanding its reach across Florida, supporting both Keiser students and community partners through hands-on simulation education as it:

  • Traveled more than 3,661 miles statewide
  • Visited 36 high schools
  • Participated in multiple community events and outreach activities
  • Delivered simulation experiences at all Keiser University Florida campuses
  • Provided more than 800 Keiser University nursing students with enhanced clinical training opportunities

The Mobile Simulation Lab’s advanced capabilities include patient assessment, medication administration, emergency interventions, intravenous procedures, tracheostomy care, gastric tube insertion, and urinary catheterization. Additionally, the integrated SimCapture recording system allows students and instructors to review and debrief each session, reinforcing critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and evidence-based practice.

About Keiser University’s Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Keiser University’s Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is designed for students beginning their first professional nursing program. Depending on the campus, students may attend either during the Fall and Spring semesters or year-round over eight semesters.

Graduates are prepared to provide compassionate, patient-centered, culturally competent nursing care to individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in a variety of healthcare settings. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, health promotion, disease management, and end-of-life care while preparing students to function as members and leaders of interprofessional healthcare teams using the most current healthcare technologies.

Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensing examination.
