Salutatorian Enjoys Supporting Healthy Lifestyles as Part of Role as a Registered Dietitian
Now launching her career as a Registered Dietitian at a local rehabilitation facility, Keiser University Melbourne Campus Salutatorian Ashlyn Reed shared that she enjoys supporting patients by applying her knowledge of scientific research, nutrition, and the behavioral and social sciences to promote good health and prevent disease.
While thanking her Keiser University professors who ‘always instilled knowledge and confidence through class discussions, student presentations, and helpful feedback,’ Reed sends a special shout of gratitude to her husband and in-laws for their ongoing support.
“I couldn’t have done it without all of them,” she said. “Whenever I came to doubt myself or became discouraged, I remembered ‘why’ I chose to go back to school. My children are my number one ‘why.’ Not only do I want to financially help care for them, but I also want to set a good example for them, teaching them hard work, perseverance, and the importance of a good education. And of course, my passion for nutrition also drove me forward. I love the concept of being able to help others through proper nutrition,” she said.
Reed advises others to remain steadfast as they work toward their goals. “Keep your eyes focused on your ‘’why,’ the reason you’re choosing to go back to school. Keep your faith and family first. And your studies as runner up. The sky is the limit,” she smiled.
Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and Nutrition combines clinical evaluation, community concerns, and food service management into a profession long valued for its service to individuals and the community at large and focused on optimal nutrition and the prevention of chronic diseases.
