Thanks to a Solid Foundation, Keiser University Equestrian Team Students Look Forward to a Bright New Year

As Keiser University Equestrian Team students gear-up for an impactful new year, they are thankful for the events which have provided a valuable foundation despite schedule changes caused by COVID19.

“Since the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) postponed fall events due to COVID19, we were thankful to turn ‘lemons into lemonade’ by fine-tuning our schedule to include other meaningful learning opportunities,” said program director Julie Snyder. “We were fortunate to welcome high school equestrians to our facility as we hosted two scrimmages where students enjoyed riding horses, speaking with coaches, and enjoying our Keiser University “Horse-pitality’ tent hosted by Community Resource Coordinator Elizabeth Snyder. We also were pleased to participate in two ‘workdays’ to support the Florida Thoroughbred Retirement and Adoptive Care (FL TRAC) and Vinceremos Equine Assisted Therapy who are program partners,” she smiled.

Activities planned for the equestrian team include participation in the annual College Preparatory Invitational (CPI), a field trip to watch an ultrasound on a pregnant mare, five weekends of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) events, and more.

Keiser University’s Equine Studies concentration offers graduates the well-rounded educational opportunity necessary to be successful in the equine industry while preparing them for admission to graduate programs in Veterinarian Medicine. Along with the necessary pre-vet curriculum, the Equine Studies concentration offers students the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in handling horses and horse training, understanding the proper nutrition and genetic composition of horses, health and disease monitoring, and more.
