Keiser University’s Sarasota Campus Wraps-Up the Year with Community Service Activities

The Keiser University Sarasota campus community recently embraced the spirit of the holidays by participating in several community service events.

Led by the Student Services Department, scores of volunteers collected non-perishable items for The Food Bank of Manatee, participated in the Mayors Feed the Hungry Fund Drive, and thanks to the recommendation of Student Government Association members, supported survivors of domestic violence by partnering with Hope Family Services.

With community service inherent in Keiser University’s mission, faculty, staff, students, and university leaders regularly promote positive change through community partnerships and educational programs and by conducting food and clothing drives, health screenings, and more.

Founded by former Sarasota mayor Fredd Adkins in 1987, the Mayor’s Feed the Hungry Program has collected and distributed over 600 tons of food and over $3,600,000 in food gift cards for the hungry in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

The Food Bank of Manatee provides nutritional assistance and caring, supportive services to individuals in need by distributing food through over 75 local non-profit partner agencies and food pantries. It is the largest hunger-relief organization based in Manatee County and has provided over 30 million pounds of food since 1985 for local children, families, and seniors.

HOPE Family Services is a private, not for profit organization designed to provide services to survivors of domestic violence and help them stay safe, gain strength, and evaluate their options.
