Keiser University’s Lakeland campus continued tradition of philanthropy this holiday season as the campus paired up with The Salvation Army of Lakeland/Polk County to help brighten the holidays for children and families throughout Central Florida.

Members of the campus kicked off the holiday spirit on December 5, 2020, by serving as bell ringers. The Salvation Army’s Bell Ringing program began in 1891 and has become one of the most visible community holiday fundraisers nationwide. Keiser University volunteers joined an army of others to raise donations.

“You get, when you give!” said Melody Rider, Keiser University Lakeland president. “We try our best to not only prepare workforce ready graduates, but to assist those in need. We want to support our community in all ways possible.”

The Lakeland campus followed up their effort on December 12 by visiting The Salvation Army’s Lakeland Distribution Center. During the day, volunteers sorted donated gift items and passed them out to families in need. The drive-thru style event was hosted to ensure social distancing measures could occur.

Rider has been a member of The Salvation Lakeland’s Board of Directors for nearly two years and Keiser University’s Lakeland campus has been frequently involved with the organization’s charitable giving during that time.
