Keiser University Students, Alumni, and Faculty are Recognized at Florida Annual Nutrition Symposium

Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition (BSDN) program students, alumni and faculty members from Keiser University’s Lakeland and Melbourne campuses were recently recognized for their academic and professional acumen at the 2019 Florida Annual Nutrition Symposium (FANS) held in Marco Island, Florida.

The group was delighted to highlight the details of Keiser University’s BSDN program while hosting an informational table with interactive games as several students, alumni and faculty members were recognized throughout the affair. Among them were Melbourne campus student Brianna Micallef who was presented the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Outstanding Dietetic Student Award, while alumna Jenniffer Hubbard was granted a Florida Legislative Workshop stipend. In addition, Lakeland campus Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics members received the Public Service Award, while student Cristin Cruz was also granted a stipend to attend the symposium.

Presentational highlights included insights relating to the increased demand for registered dietitian nutritionist referrals delivered by Department Chair and Melbourne Campus Program Director Dr. Jessica Weissman, and an informational poster relating to the proliferating effects of specific phenols, myricetin and piceatannol, on cells and steroid production delivered by Dr. Maria Spicer, Keiser University’s Lakeland campus Clinical Coordinator.
