Keiser University Students Enjoy DECA Career Development Conference and Competitions

Keiser University DECA students Melissa Brooks, Amarri Davis, Thomas Filegar, and Brett Stallo recently honed their business skills at the 2022 Florida Collegiate DECA Career Development Conference competitions held at the University of Central Florida in Orlando Florida.

Those recognized were:

  • Thomas Filegar and Brett Stallo: Business Ethics team competition 1st place
  • Melissa Brooks and Amarri Davis: Business Ethics team competition 4th place

Led by DECA Faculty Advisor Dr. Racquel Elliott and Co-Advisor Dr. John Adams, the group strategized for the competitions by studying case rubrics, simulating practice cases, and reviewing theory. They were also thankful to Keiser University faculty experts Dr. Joseph Clottey and Dr. Lonnie Martens who weighed in on Business Ethics as well as Elliott and Adams who assisted with Marketing, Finance, Management, and Competition strategies. “The experience was very rewarding because it provided the opportunity to fine-tune our critical thinking skills and to think fast on our feet,” said Keiser University competitor Amari Davis.

Designed to develop critical and creative thinking skills, problem-solving, decision-making, presentation, and analytical skills, the contests required participants to review business simulation cases in 45 minutes and follow with 15-minute presentations. “All the participants say they like that they have the chance to apply what they have learned in class and to meet judges who are business leaders,” said Dr. Elliott. “We’re thankful to guide our students through this memorable experience.”

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
