KU Sarasota Nursing Students Delve Into Signs and Symptoms of Specific Drugs as Part of Substance Abuse Day

Keiser University Sarasota campus Nursing students recently gained a first-hand look at the signs and symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal as they delved into a variety of substances.

Led by Nursing Instructor Mic Lanning, the Associate of Science in Nursing Student Cohort 28 classroom activity required assigned groups to explore the categories of Caffeine, Nicotine, Stimulants, Sedative/Hypnotics, Inhalants, Opiates, Cannabinoids, Hallucinogens, and Alcohol. While outlining the street names for each drug category, they researched the signs and symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal, medications used to treat withdrawal if appropriate, and nursing interventions when addressing patients using each particular substance.

Each group then presented their drug category to the class. To learn more about Keiser University’s Nursing programs, please visit: https://keiser-education.com/programs/nursing
