KU West Palm Beach Campus Students Delve Into Television Crime Coverage and Its Benefits

Keiser University West Palm Beach campus Criminal Justice program students recently visited South Florida’s NBC and FOX television affiliates as part of their lesson relating to television crime coverage, and how the media can serve as an outlet to gain investigative leads.

Under the leadership of Robin Shepett, Criminal Justice faculty member and Teaching and Learning Coordinator, the group enjoyed the opportunity to tour the WPTV and WFLX broadcast studios where they learned how equipment and technology culminate to create broadcasts, and how feature stories and their sources are selected.  The tour also provided class members the opportunity to meet the news anchors, to watch them record news briefs, and to ask questions relating to the topics they’d studied in class.

Keiser University’s Criminal Justice program provides preparation in many areas of the criminal justice system. Topics include but are not limited to deviant behavior, forensics, law enforcement and investigation, victimology, private security, corrections and juvenile justice and how components work together and are governed by laws, the Supreme Court and the U.S. Constitution. The exploration of the American criminal justice system culminates with an emphasis on research, analysis and the future of the system.
