Motivated by Nephew’s Journey, Keiser University Student Looks Forward to Progressing in the Field of Healthcare

Keiser University Daytona Beach Campus Associate of Science in Nursing student Laura Ellenbecker looks forward to progressing in her role as a healthcare professional at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

In addition to a lifelong desire to foster strength and restoration the Deltona, Florida resident was motivated to join the profession due to watching her nephew Brian’s journey as a Leukemia patient. “I remember wondering why he had to leave us, and feeling extremely helpless and heartbroken as I watched Brian and those supporting him fighting so hard. It was then that I decided that I wanted to one day join others in the profession to support healing,” said Ellenbecker who currently serves as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

In addition to Keiser University professors who have imparted encouragement and continued support, Ellenbecker also recognizes that the Effective Access to Student Education (EASE) grant has played a major role in preparing healthcare workers. “The funding is very helpful to students as they progress academically and it helps to eliminate financial pressure, as it allowed me to continue to work part-time while I continued with my full-time studies,” reflected Ellenbecker who enrolled at Keiser University’s Daytona Beach campus at the recommendation and encouragement of her husband Tim, a Keiser University alumnus who earned his degree in Homeland Security in 2014.

Keiser University’s Associate of Science degree in Nursing program prepares students to practice professional nursing. Professional nursing involves the performance of those acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied principles of biological, physical, psychological, and social sciences.
