Thankful for Networking Opportunities, Keiser University Alumnus Excels in Clinical Externship

Keiser University College of Chiropractic Medicine Alumnus Jaime Ayuso

For Keiser University College of Chiropractic Medicine (KUCCM) graduate Dr. Jaime Ayuso the educational road has provided a variety of opportunities to solidify a strong professional foundation.

Now enjoying his clinical residency at the Human Performance Center at Northwestern Health Sciences University, Ayuso recently earned his Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, and International Sports Chiropractic certificates and is currently working toward his Registered Musculoskeletal Sonography certification as well as his master’s degree in Exercise Science.

Ayuso shared that in addition to effectively managing athletes and treating patients in the clinical setting, the determination stems from a desire to motivate and inspire others who are contemplating career choices. “My friends and family are my support and have helped me tremendously,” smiled Ayuso who earned his Alternative Medicine Bachelor of Science degree from Everglades University in 2014. “The world of opportunity is endless, and although certain aspects of the vision may change, one should never give up. The right position is out there. You must always strive for more experience, knowledge, and lifetime growth.”

After originally researching physician’s assistant programs, Ayuso first began to envision a chiropractic career after discovering Keiser University’s College of Chiropractic Medicine was preparing to welcome students to its inaugural class.  He soon joined the assembly and went ahead to forge a career path thanks to knowledgeable instructors and a variety of networking opportunities.

“Each professor is an all-star in their subspecialty, and definitely helped get me to the position that I‘m in today,” reflected Ayuso of professors Dr. Janet Sikora, Dr. Brett White, Dr. Jennifer Illes, Dr. Ralph Kruse, and former director Dr. Mike Wiles who is now retired.  “Their encouragement, example, and leadership helped in setting the standard of excellence,” said Ayuso while noting that the program’s focus on industry involvement at the state and national levels helped introduce him to leaders in the field who he wanted to emulate.

The challenges of the Covid19 pandemic also provided valuable lessons and silver linings, as Ayuso was accepted to Northwestern Health Sciences University after networking with an industry colleague during that period, and credits new colleagues for their encouragement with earning certifications. “When speaking with some of the previous residents, their advice was to maximize my time and take advantage of the opportunities to help further my skills as a sports-oriented chiropractic physician,” said Ayuso, who is the first to earn a doctorate in his family and gladly took the advice to advance further.
