In the wake of the tragic Notre Dame fire, Keiser University history professor Glenn Swift recently shared insight with NBC television viewers relating to the cultural and historical significance of the structure, reminding South Floridians of the rich heritage of the international destination.

“The Notre Dame Cathedral is an icon of international significance. One of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, the 900-year old Cathedral is a symbol of French culture,  the city of Paris, Christianity and the French nation. The structure took over a century to build and has endured the trials and tribulations of the French Revolution and two world wars. Indeed it is hard to even imagine Paris without thinking of Notre Dame. Hopefully, it can be rebuilt with the same magnificence that has made it an ageless treasure for all mankind,” said Swift.

Swift is Professor of History, Program Director for General Education, and Chairman of the Committee for Study Abroad Programs and Interdisciplinary Studies at Keiser University’s Flagship Campus in West Palm Beach. Since the fall of 2015, Swift has been teaching American History, and the History of Liberty and Contemporary Global Issues, as well as teaching and supervising a study-abroad course for Keiser at St. Claire’s College, Oxford entitled: “From Canterbury Tales to the Theory of Everything: How Britain Shaped the Modern World.”

Swift has been teaching at the college level for eighteen years at several colleges and universities across Florida and in the Bahamas prior to arriving at Keiser four years ago. In addition to his academic pursuits, Swift has enjoyed a successful professional career as an award-winning writer, editor, publisher, investment advisor, and radio talk-show host. As a journalist, Swift was well known for his colorful, insightful and humorous style and was the honored recipient of the Florida Magazine Association’s 1999 Bronze Award for Writing Excellence/Best In-Depth Reporting.
