Dr. Ilene Miller’s New Appointment to The SSTIC

Dr. Ilene Miller, Program Director of the Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS) Keiser University Multidisciplinary Center (KUMDC) located at the Keiser University Graduate School, has just been appointed to The State Secondary Transition Interagency Committee (SSTIC). Dr. Miller shares her enthusiasm, “This is a great honor for both the FDLRS Grant, as well as, Keiser University. It’s not only an opportunity to meet others throughout the state that focus on similar areas to our grant, but to also share best practices and highlight the success that the KUMDC has in the area of transition.” Dr. Miller has worked in the area of education and grants for 23 years.

The State Secondary Transition Interagency Committee (SSTIC) is a state-level interagency team designed to facilitate collaboration and planning to improve secondary transition. The SSTIC has several subcommittees that are charged with reviewing data and identifying potential solutions. Membership of the SSTIC committee, also, includes individuals from UCF, USF, USFSP, the Florida Dept. of Education, the Board of Governors staff, school district staff, and Volunteer Florida.

The Keiser University Multidisciplinary Center (KUMDC) is one of six regional Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS) Multidisciplinary Centers providing a range of services including screenings, assessments and mentoring services for children and youth at risk for or who have been identified as having complex medical, educational, emotional or behavioral problems and other risk factors for poor educational and/or academic outcomes. The KUMDC, also, provides consultation, technical assistance, and training for staff. The center’s goals support the indicators within the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services (BEESS) Strategic Plan and the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Strategic Performance Plan to prepare students with disabilities enrolled in public K-12 programs for high academic achievement and successful postsecondary outcomes. The FDLRS KUMDC is now in its sixth year of operation and collaborates with districts, agencies, communities, and other personnel and educational entities by providing education and support for students with disabilities. Requests for these services can be initiated by a legal guardian or by school personnel, through the website: http://kumc.keiseruniversity.edu/, or via email or by phone.
