Keiser University Allied Health Students Participate in Scoliosis Screenings at Lake Nona Elementary School

Allied health students from Keiser University’s Orlando campus recently partnered with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in Orange County to assist with scoliosis examinations for over 600 boys and girls between the ages of 11-12 at Lake Nona Elementary School.

“We are honored to partner with the FDOH in such an important community endeavor,” said Arthur Keiser, Ph.D., Chancellor, and CEO of Keiser University. “By assisting with these examinations, our students receive the practical experience they can draw on as they move forward in their career.”

During the scoliosis screenings, Keiser students identified numerous students showing potential signs of scoliosis. “It was a long day but very rewarding at the same time,” said Bibi Sullivan, Program Director. “The opportunity to partner with FDOH and support our community is really rewarding for our students and program.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine. Signs and symptoms of scoliosis may include:

  • Uneven shoulders
  • One shoulder blade that appears more prominent than the other
  • Uneven waist
  • One hip higher than the other
