Keiser University College of Golf Students Enjoy Vintage Clubs
Keiser University College of Golf students enjoy the opportunity to play with clubs from the 1920’s forward to compare to today’s technology and to gain a full appreciation for how far golf club development has come. Led by Professor Ken Martin, History of Golf class members recently participated in a scramble tournament using persimmon woods, blade irons, and Bullseye putters. The circa 1960s and 1970s clubs were used to play The Squire Course at PGA National Golf Resort and Spa.
The team of Liam Gransden, Daniel Barber, and Daniel Houseman was victorious with a record setting score of 9-under par 62 while using a set of 1965 MT2 MacGregor irons, a Titleist persimmon driver and 3-wood, and an Acushnet Bullseye putter, while capping off the round with a Driver, 2-iron, one-putt finish on the 18th hole for an eagle-3.
Finishing five shots back in second place at 4-under par 68 were Peter Crocitto, Colton Kenagy, and Aaron Lennie. Samantha Fuller, Mitchell Bland, and Dmytro Koba finished in third place at 3-under par 69. Fourth place went to Garry Williams, Daniel McCoy, and Aaron Paulk with a 1-under par 71, followed by Nick Wells and Cameron Kelley with even par 72.
The opportunity to use golf clubs from ‘back in the day’ provided the group an appreciation for the skills and abilities of golf’s greats of the era. Champions such as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Billy Casper all shot incredible scores and won major championships using the clubs.
