Keiser University Fort Lauderdale Makes Donations Through Kits for Kids Campaign
During the last month of summer, Keiser University Fort Lauderdale hosted their annual Keiser Kits for Kids campaign, where students, staff, and faculty came together to donate school supplies for children in need.
This year’s campaign benefited two local south Florida organizations, SOS Children’s Village and Liberty Elementary, where the collected supplies will go towards giving underprivileged children a head start to the school year.
The donation for SOS Children’s Village came thanks to the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program, and the program’s director, Dr. Jelaine James. One of the PTA program’s long-term clinical partners, Mr. Elmer Pillon, has a deep connection with SOS Children’s Village and has been collecting school supplies in a Back to School Supply Drive for years. This year, to give back to the department’s partner and benefit the community, the PTA program used Kits for Kids to donate to SOS Children’s Village.
Mr. Pillon runs a private facility in south Florida named Health Rehab and has been accepting Keiser University students for clinical sites and field trips since 2007.
“Once [students] hear more about where the supplies are going, and the effort that Mr. Pillon is doing, they do get excited,” said Dr. James.
SOS Children’s Village is an organization with locations around the globe that aims to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures, and share in the development of their communities. They do this by working with communities and state partners to provide children with loving and supportive alternative care once a child can no longer live with their families. Keiser University’s donations will go towards helping many children in the community.
Additionally, Keiser University Ft. Lauderdale collected supplies in their campaign for Liberty Elementary, a local community partner and elementary school. Rachel Robuste, Community Liaison and Volunteer/Mentor coordinator for Liberty Elementary STEM Museum Magnet School, visited the campus personally to meet with campus President Dr. Ryan Sagers and thank him for the generous donation.
