Keiser University Shanghai and Tallahassee Campuses Enjoy Collaborating

Two leading Keiser University campuses were recently delighted to collaborate as students, faculty members and Gavin Chen, Dean of Academic Affairs from the Keiser University Shanghai campus visited the Tallahassee campus.

The KU Shanghai Campus visitors were warmly greeted by Tallahassee students, staff, faculty members, Dean of Academic Affairs Shyam Mistry and Campus President Maria Mead. In appreciation, President Mead was presented a stunning silk scarf illustrating the history of the Keiser University Shanghai campus.

Students completing the MBA program with a focus in Health Care Administration were then provided a tour of the Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic to illustrate the role the organization plays in delivering specialized orthopedic and various other ancillary services. Chief Executive Officer Mark Didier coordinated an in-depth, first-hand account of the vital role the facility plays in the medical community, while Lori Colvin, Operations Manager, and Lori Browne, Ancillary Service Manager provided warm greetings and a general overview of the organization and its services. The group then visited the Radiographic Imaging Department and were pleased to connect with technologists Reid Cecil and Kayla Curran, both Keiser University alumni. The tour continued through the casting rooms, while highlighting the services provided to patients undergoing various treatments for stabilization and the follow-up care necessary for broken bones and other soft tissue injuries. Students were also shown the lab where Orthotics and Prosthetic Specialists produce prosthetics and inserts for patients completing rehabilitation treatment plans. Dr. Scott Porter a specialist in Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury also took time to meet with the students and discuss the growing concern sports related brain injuries have on the medical community and the public. The tour concluded with a Question and Answer session led by Timothy Goody, the organization’s Chief Operations Officer.

A visit was also arranged to Azalea Gardens Alzheimer’s Special Care Center where guests received an in-depth tour of the facility and were provided details of how residents interact and receive specialized treatments based on their cognitive levels.  The Shanghai students learned of the “Meaningful Moments” philosophy, a holistic approach emphasizing the importance of becoming familiar with each patient’s unique life story while being honored as individuals, physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and more.

The group then enjoyed a tour of the Keiser University Tallahassee campus’ Allied Health labs and interacted with Medical Assisting, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Nursing students while gaining insight relating to the impact of KU graduates on Florida’s healthcare system and the vital importance a quality education plays in relation to patient care.

The excursion concluded with a three-course meal prepped, cooked and served by Keiser University Culinary Arts Competition team members in the university’s Dining Hall. “The group left our campus with new perspective on healthcare and a great appreciation and respect from the KU Tallahassee family. Overall a valuable relationship has been built, and we look forward to working alongside our Shanghai campus colleagues in any way that we can in the future,” said President Mead.
