Orlando Campus Students Enjoy Departmental Collaboration

Students from the Keiser University Orlando Campus’ Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology (SMFT) and Exercise Science (ES) programs recently joined to visit a local vitamin shop. The group was able to learn more about product types, ingredients, quality and the accuracy of recommended dosages.

Upper level students from each program also paired to conduct a joint lab to learn more about the effects of different foods on glucose levels. Select members refrained from consuming food for at least two-hours prior to undergoing an initial glucose test administered by Medical Assisting (MA) students, and were then administered a second test after consuming a snack. With the comparative analysis reflecting higher numbers on the second test, the group discussed the types of snacks consumed to determine the cause, and found that foods higher in sugar and carbohydrates increased the range as compared to those containing protein.
